Burgundy & Alsace region – France

Even though we are only about 2 hours from the French border, somehow we always found reasons NOT to visit. May be it’s because the concept of spending money in a country where we’ve always heard that hated foreigners, especially Americans. Who knows, anyway, in early August, we finally bit the bullet and decided to venture into France. Since we moved to Europe, we have been learning and appreciating wines from all over. We decided to visit Beune, one of the cities in the Burgundy region and Strasbourg in Alsace region. Along the way, we decided also to tackle Dijon, famous for its mustard (Grey Poupon, anyone?) and Colmar, enroute to Strasbourg in Alsace.
All four of the cities were awesome, but it’s the journey that was most memorable to me, may be it was because we took the wine route or La Route des Grands Vins. http://www.laroutedesgrandsvins.com/ I was still on blood thinners so I did much tasting, but also mostly spitting, like a wanna-be wine connoisseur. Patrick, on the other hand, had a designated driver and helped himself with as much of the liquidity goodness of Burgundy/Alsace wines as he could stomach. To top off the great weekend, the weather was great the entire time we were in France. What more could one ask for?
